Bead crafts for kids are one of our favorite screen-free activities, but they don’t have to end with beads all over the floor.
I used to pour beads out of bags, where similar colors were mixed together, into little containers. Inevitably, someone bumped the table and beads went everywhere. Bracelet making is one of our favorite screen-free activities, but it took a better setup to make it feel easy instead of stressful. These are the four supplies that changed that for us.

Here’s what we use:
1. Clear Bead Organizer Tackle Box

This is the difference between a fun project and a floor covered in beads. Every color gets its own grid, and the adjustable dividers keep everything in its place. The organizer comes with sticker labels too, which I haven’t needed for this use of the box, but I could see that they might come in handy. There are 36 grids, which fits a 36-color bead set exactly, and the pack of two means the beads can be split between the two boxes and two children could play, each with their own bead box.
2. Pink Bead Board

The flocked surface keeps beads from rolling everywhere while kids design bracelets and necklaces. It genuinely makes the process less chaotic. Kids lay out the pattern first and then start stringing once they like it.
3. Stretch Magic Elastic Beading Cord

Strong, stretchy, and easy to knot, this is the cord that holds up to a kid’s enthusiastic bracelet-making. Stretchy cord also means no clasps to fumble with, so kids can slide their bracelets on and off themselves.
4. Pony Beads Bulk Pack
Beads are small parts, so supervise younger children.

With 36 colors and 3,400 beads, you won’t run out mid-project. That matters more than you’d think, because running out of a color is exactly when craft time falls apart. A big assortment also means kids can make matching sets, name bracelets, and gifts for friends without rationing.
How It Works Together
Once the supplies are in place, the actual process is simple enough that kids can do most of it themselves.
- Sort first. Pour the beads into the organizer by color, and let the kids help. It’s a built-in sorting activity.
- Design on the board. Lay out the pattern before any stringing.
- String and tie. Thread the cord and knot it securely. Adults should handle the knots for younger kids.
- Clean up fast. Any extra beads go back into their grids and everything goes back in the box.
Activity Ideas
- Name or word bracelets (great for early reading- if you’re looking for book ideas too, check out our Kids Book hub.)
- Patterns such as rainbow for practicing sequences
- Friendship bracelet swaps
- Handmade gifts for teachers and grandparents
Why We Keep Coming Back to This
I’m always looking for activities that keep kids curious and engaged, especially ones that are actually manageable for parents. I don’t avoid all screens, but if an activity is screen-free, that’s another plus. Bead crafts have become a regular pick in our house, right alongside book time and other hands-on projects.
